Is WIND actually free?

Yes. Every feature of the launcher and WindUI is free, and there will never be ads. Nothing is locked behind a paywall, and that's not going to change.

What are WIND+ and WIND++?

Two optional subscriptions that are planned but not available yet. They don't unlock any features. Instead, they add exclusive cosmetics and let you keep your server online around the clock on our cloud.

• WIND+ (planned at €4.99/month): a cloud server with 2 GB RAM, a custom cape you design yourself with images or GIFs, and a new in-game badge color.
• WIND++ (planned at €14.99/month): a stronger cloud server with up to 6 GB RAM and a faster CPU, a pair of wings you design yourself, and an exclusive badge next to your name.

Cosmetics will also be available to buy individually.

Is WIND a Minecraft client like Lunar or Feather?

No. WIND is a launcher: it starts regular Minecraft: Java Edition with Fabric, Forge or NeoForge and your own mods. The in-game extras come from WindUI, a normal mod you can use or leave out.

Do I need a Microsoft account?

You need a Microsoft account that owns Minecraft: Java Edition to play, that's a Minecraft requirement, not a WIND one. WIND doesn't need a separate account of its own.

Windows shows a SmartScreen warning, is WIND safe?

WIND is a new application and hasn't built up enough reputation with Microsoft SmartScreen yet, that warning does not mean WIND has been flagged as malware. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC," click More info, then Run anyway to continue the installation. We're working on code-signing WIND, which will make this warning go away as it builds reputation.

Where do mods and modpacks come from?

From Modrinth and CurseForge, both searchable right inside the launcher. You can install single mods or complete modpacks, and resource packs and shaders work the same way.

How do I play with friends?

Add them in the friends menu, then open your world to them. WIND connects you directly peer-to-peer, so they can join your singleplayer world without anyone setting up a server. The same menu also handles chat, groups, invites and sharing modpacks.

Can I host my own server?

Yes. WIND sets up a Vanilla, Paper, Spigot, Fabric, Forge or NeoForge server on your PC. To let others join, use port forwarding or a WIND Tunnel, which gives your server its own *.play.windlauncher.com address without touching your router. Plugins, mods and datapacks install straight from Modrinth. The server runs while your PC is on.

What is WindUI, and do I need it?

WindUI is our in-game UI and HUD mod with a frosted-glass design, HUD modules, a minimap, waypoints and more. It's lightweight and built to be easy on your hardware. It isn't required to use the launcher, but together they share backgrounds and your friends menu.

Which versions does WindUI support?

WindUI runs on Fabric for Minecraft 1.21 and newer, including the latest snapshots. A NeoForge version and a version for 1.20.1 (Forge and NeoForge) are on the way.

What happens if the game crashes?

WIND's crash assistant reads through the crash log, works out what went wrong and suggests a fix. Most of the time, all that's left to do is click Apply and restart.

Is my data shared with anyone?

Only where it's needed to make a feature work, for example crash logs are sent to Jev and Google Gemini for analysis. We don't sell data or show ads. Details are in the privacy policy.
