Frequently asked questions

Common questions about WIND

Is WIND actually free?

Yes. No subscription, no premium tier, no ads anywhere in the launcher. WIND is free now and stays free.

Do I need a Microsoft account?

You need a Microsoft account with a Minecraft license to play, that's a Minecraft requirement, not a WIND one. WIND itself doesn't require a separate account to try.

Windows shows a SmartScreen warning, is WIND safe?

WIND is a new application and hasn't built up enough reputation with Microsoft SmartScreen yet, that warning does not mean WIND has been flagged as malware. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC," click More info, then Run anyway to continue the installation. We're working on code-signing WIND, which will make this warning go away as it builds reputation.

What is WindUI, and do I need it?

WindUI is WIND's in-game overlay mod, it runs inside Minecraft itself, not in the launcher. You can install it like any other mod through the mod browser, it isn't required to use the launcher.

Can I use mods I already have?

If a mod is available on Modrinth, you can add it through WIND's built-in browser and it'll become part of a modpack you can manage from the launcher.

How do I play with friends?

The friends list is built into WIND. Once you're friends with someone, you can join their world directly, nothing gets uploaded or hosted in between, and neither of you needs to run a separate server.

What happens if the game crashes?

WIND's crash assistant reads through the crash log, works out what went wrong and suggests a fix. Most of the time, all that's left to do is click Apply and restart.

Is my data shared with anyone?

Only where it's needed to make a feature work, for example crash logs are sent to Google Gemini for analysis. We don't sell data or show ads. Details are in the privacy policy.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

Use the report page, it goes straight to us.
