Privacy policy

Last updated September 2026

This page explains what data WIND collects when you use the launcher, why, and what we do with it. WIND is built by a solo developer, not a company with a data team, so we try to collect as little as possible.

Your Microsoft and Minecraft account

Playing Minecraft requires a Microsoft account, and that login happens directly with Microsoft, not through WIND. We never see or store your password. WIND stores the session token needed to keep you logged in and your Minecraft profile info (username, UUID, skin) so the launcher can work.

Friends and presence

If you use the friends list, we store who you're friends with and your online status so that feature works. This data lives on our own servers and isn't shared with anyone outside of what's needed to show it to your friends inside WIND.

Crash logs

When you use the crash assistant, your crash log is sent to Google Gemini to analyze what went wrong and suggest a fix. We only send the log itself, not your account details. If you'd rather not use this feature, you can always read the crash log yourself instead.

Mods and Modrinth

Browsing and installing mods happens through Modrinth's public API. Modrinth has its own privacy policy that applies to that part of the experience.

What we don't do

Data security

Account and chat data is stored on our own server with encryption at rest where it matters (like chat messages). No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we store.

Children's privacy

WIND follows the same age requirements as Minecraft itself, set by Microsoft's account terms. We don't knowingly collect extra data from children beyond what's needed to run the launcher.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
